The famous songwriter and singer, Darius Carlos “Hootie” Rucker, was born with American nationality and he was raised by his single mother Carolyn. His upbringing was African-American. He attended Middleton High School and got graduated from the University of South Carolina. Music was in his veins and he always dreams to become a singer.
 
During his college days, Darius Rucker and his friends made a band named Hootie & the Blowfish in 1986. They recorded and released six albums which made its place in the charts of top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. After his fame, he was titled as “Hootie” by the audience in the media. He continued to gain the fame, success, and popularity. He was asked to sing the national anthem. This was his collaborative career.
 
Taking about his solo career, he made his debut with R&B album, The Return of Mongo Slade. This debut album was recorded for Atlantic records. Due to some contractual changes, it was released with the name of Back to Then under Hidden Beach Recordings. He continued with rigor to reach the heights of success. His works include Learn to Live, Charleston, SC 1996, True believers, Southern styles and Home for the Holidays.
 
His achievements include 3 Grammy awards for best new artist, best pop performance by a duo or group with vocal and best country solo performance, 1 country music association award for new artist of the year and one British country music association awards for international album of the year for Southern Style.
