Dilip Chitre was born on 17-09-1938 in Vadodara in the state of Gujarat, India. He was an Indian Screenwriter, Film Director, Poet, Literary Critic, Painter, Editor, Translator, Columnist, Documentary Filmmaker, Writer & Author who known for his work in Hindi and Marathi Cinemas.

Dilip Chitre Complete Bio & Career

Dilip Chitre first collection of poems was published in the year1960. He was the man behind the 60's popular “little magazine movement" in Marathi. His one of the famous collections "Shabda" he started with "Ramesh Samarth and also with "Arun Kolatkar." He received the award of (Visiting fellowship) in 1975 by the University of Lowa city under the "International Writing Programme" in the US.

He worked in Bharat Bhavan ( a Multi-Arta Foundation) and he was the director of the (Indian Poetry Library) and translation center. He also amassed a world poetry festival (N-Delhi) accompanied by an (international conference of poets) in Bhopal. In 1990, his poem (Ekun Kavita) published in three volumes. Poetrywala published his all selected one English poem of collections from 1964 to 2007 and the English translation of his most selected poetry "Shesha" and despite his last one book published in the year 2007. He has published his Collection of Marathi Poetry from (1945–65). He was a skilled translator and he very proficiently translated the most selected poetry.

His one of the remarkable translation based on the Sant Tukaram (Marathi Bhakti Poet) and he published his poetry by the name "Saya Tuka".Despite he has also translated the noted poetry of "Dnyaneshwar (12th century Poet) "Anubhavamrut". In 1969, he began his filmy career and during his journey, he had made several (Documentary films, short films, one feature film as well as 20 video documentary features). He was the only one who involved in handling all the segments of the films, he himself scripted the films, even though he made ready music for the films and also directed and co-directed almost all his films.

During his life, he widely traveled in many countries such as Europe, Asia, Africa, North America as well as also in the inner parts of India to promote the poetry. He had been visited as the faculty of so many institutions, Universities and even he was the consultant for many projects. Dilip Chitre died on 10 Dec 2009 after a long battle with cancer in Pune.
