Eddie Aikau was born on 04-05-1946 in Kahului in the state of Hawaii, United States. He was an American Lifeguard & Surfer. He was the 1st lifeguard at Waimea Bay (Oahu's Island).

Eddie Aikau Complete Bio & Career

Eddie Aikau was a surfing champion and a lifeguard who moved with his family to Oahu while he was just 13 years old. He started working from the age of 16 and from his first paycheck, he bought himself a surfboard. He started practicing on his own and at the young age of 19 was hired by Honolulu officials as the lifeguard of the North Shore. In the process, he became the first lifeguard of Waimea Bay. In his brief career, he rescued over 500 people and that too without the help of any modern equipment just as jet ski.
 
He once rescued people when the surf reached 30 feet high earned him the lifeguard of the year award in 1971. Besides rescuing people, he was also an accomplished surfer and was the first native of Hawai who won the Duke Kahanamoku Invitational Surfing Championship. In 1978, he was hired by Polynesian Voyaging Society as a crew member for a 30 day voyage to Tahiti Island. A leak was developed by volunteers and he had to take of his surfboard and swim for help. The rest of the crew was rescued but he was never seen again and hence the day from which he went missing declared as his day of death.
