Farida Jalal is famous for portraying characters like mother, elder sister, widow, grandmother, an elderly neighbor and a family friend. In a 6 decade long career, she has delivered some of the most memorable performances of Bollywood. Besides the silver screen, she has also played some of the most noted roles of Indian telly industry. Her performance in Dekh Bhai Dekh was one of the most memorable roles of Indian television industry. Though she only did second heroine roles, she has been one of the most successful stories in Bollywood.
 
Farida Jalal rose to prominence after being spotted in a Talent Hunt program, which was organized by Filmfare. She was given a direct entry into the mainstream Bollywood films. She made her Hindi film debut with the film Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke. Aradhna was one of her biggest hit films and made her a household name with Lata-Mohd Rafi’s beautiful song 'Bhagon Mein Bahar Hai' picturized on her. In her illustrious career, she has played a lead role just once in her career and that was in the film 'Jeevan Rekha' when she was paired opposite her future husband Tabrez Barmavar. 
 
Her performance in the films like Henna, Paras, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Mammo needs a special mention.
 
She is among the few actresses of Bollywood today, who has played a role in some of the biggest hits of Bollywood from the 1960s to date.
