Fatima Sheikh was an Indian educator.She was Mian Usman Sheikh's sister. In whose house Jyotiba and Savitribai Phule took up residence, she started educating Dalit children in Phules' school.Jyotiba and Savitribai Phule, and Fatima Sheikh, worked to bring education to the poor.
Savitribai Phule and Fatima Shiekh decided to teaching women and underprivileged castes.They were threatened by locals, and her family was also targeted with the choice of either stopping all their activities or leaving their home.
Neither their caste nor family and community members were in support of what they fought for. After being abandoned by everyone around them, the Phule couple search for a place to reside while pursuing their educational goals for the underprivileged.During their search, they encountered a Muslim man Usman Sheikh, who was living in Ganj Peth of Pune (then known as Poona).Usman Sheikh donated the Phules his home and promised to establish a school on the property.In 1848, Usman Sheikh and his sister Fatima Sheikh established a school in their home.
It was unsurprising that nearly everyone in Poona's upper caste was opposed to Fatima and Savitribai's activities, and there were even attempts to halt them through social shame.were even attempts to stop them by social humiliation. However, it was Fatima who supported Savitribai's cause in every possible manner.
Savitribai Phule's school was where Fatima Sheikh began her teaching career. They were accompanied by Saguna Bai. Usman Sheikh, the brother of Fatima Sheikh, encouraged her to spread education in the society.
People from Pune harassed and abused Savitribai and Fatima when they started going to schools established by Jyotiba because it was unthinkable for women to learn.
