Gopinath Bordoloi was born on 06-06-1890 in Raha in the state of Assam, India. He was an Indian Politician, Prime Minister, Activist, Writer & Chief Minister.
Gopinath Bordoloi Complete Bio & Career
Gopinath Bordoloi could be called as the father of Assam. He was the politician and a reformer who maintained the sovereignty of United Assam that is the combination of present Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. He gave his entire life for the welfare of Assam during the difficult time of British Rule, World War 2, Revolts for Independence and finally the Partition of India.
He was a scholar at the times of the early British Raj in India and by profession, he was a lawyer. He was greatly attracted to Gandhian principles and joined the Indian National Congress as soon as a division of the party was formed in Assam.
He became an opposition leader during the Government of India Act and took an oath as Prime Minister of United Assam. Before that, he was a member of the Guwahati Municipal Board where he did social work and demanded a University and High Court for Assam as they were a minority in the North- East India.
As a part of Quit India Movement and the effect of World War 2 he had to resign his post and became an active member of the movement. After the Partition of India, he was elected as a Chief Minister of Assam.
High Court of Assam, Assam Medical College, Assam Veterinary College etcetera, could be credited to him as he laid foundations for them.
Annasaktiyog, Shreeramachandra, Hajrat Mohammad, and Budhhadeb are the books he wrote when he was jailed.
