Govindappa Venkataswamy Complete Bio & Career
In 1944, Govindappa Venkataswamy obtained his medical degree from Madras (Stanley Medical College). Even after attaining the medical degree, he started his medical practice in the Indian Army along with the team of the medical practitioners. He could not extend his services in the Indian Army for the long time due to the cause of rheumatoid arthritis. Though he was remained bedridden for a year.
He was not able to keep continuing of his medical practice due to arthritis. He started learning the "Ophthalmology".He used the specially designed instruments for the operating his arthritical hand to work normally for the regular choirs. This specially designed instruments and tools made his life so comfortable he did not feel his arthritic problem. Despite that, he was thus determined for helping the patients those were suffering from eyes diseases. He started doing the “hundred “surgeries in a single day.
He became India's well-known eyes surgeon for the cataract surgeries in India. In his life, over the period of 25 years, he had performed more than 1 lacs eyes surgeries. This is a significant accomplishment by the Dr. Govindappa. He is the founder of the Aravind Eye Hospital who is having 5 branches and more than 3500 beds for the treatment of the eyes patients. At present Arvind eyes hospital performing more than two lacs, surgeries and they are charging very nominal fees for the treatment.
