Harishankar Parsai was born on 22-08-1924, in Hoshangabad District in the state of Madhya Pradesh in India. He was one of the country’s greatest Hindi Satire Writer. His best books include Nithalle Ki Diary, Apni Apni Bimari, Premchand Ke Phate Joote and Viklaang Shraddha Ka Daur to name a few.

He finished his M.A. degree from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University. He began his career as a Teacher. Later he quit his job to become a full-time professional writer. He started his writing career by publishing a literary magazine titled “Vasudha". Although it was praised heavily by people it closed soon citing financial losses. 
 
He was popular for his pinching style and blunt kind of writing. His writing included both, humor to make you laugh and at the same time serious enough to pierce your senses. There’s hardly any dimensions of life which he has left to cover in his satires. For his remarkable contribution to the Hindi literature and for his book "Viklaang Sraddha ka Daur" he was honored with the biggest literary award in India, which is Sahitya Academy Award.  
 
The noted satirist breathed his last in Jabalpur on 10th August 1995.
