Dr. Herbert David Kleber was a renowned American substance abuse researcher and psychiatrist. After his graduation, he became a professor at Yale University and it is where he founded the Drug Dependence Unit. He was the head of the unit till 1989. Post that, he served Deputy Director for Demand Reduction at the Office of National Drug Control Policy in the White House.
 
In 1992 he along with his wife founded a Substance abuse division at the famous Columbia University in New York. He became the director of that division and founded numerous ways on new methods to treat individuals with prescription opioid, marijuana problems, heroin, cocaine and alcohol. He also authored various case studies and was the co-editor of the American Psychiatric Press Textbook of Substance Abuse Treatment. 
 
For his contribution, he was felicitated with various awards in his career. He was named the Best Doctor in New York and the United States. He was elected as the member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences in the year 1996. He believed in beyond academies and he championed many people’s professional and personal lives. For his achievements Google honoured with a Doodle on 01-10-2019.
