She was born to Nippani Srinivas Rao and Kausalya Devi. She was married to a zoology professor Juluri Ramana Rao in 1965. He passed away in 2014 because of cardiac arrest. They have two children, daughter Sravanthi and son Vamsikrishna. Currently, Jamuna is working as a board of director for some schools and living in Hyderabad.
