Short Biography

Jigme Dorji Wangchuck was born on 02-05-1928 in the state of Trongsa, Bhutan. He was a Bhutanese Druk Gyalpo.

Jigme Dorji Wangchuck Complete Bio & Career

His education was not like other children but as royal as it can be because he was being taught in the palace itself and later on moved to India in the city Kalipmong for further education. With a view to developing more Bhutan, He moved to western countries Like Europe and England for educational and study tours to open Bhutan to the world. In 1943 he returned to motherland Bhutan and made as Tongsa Dronyer and then promoted as Governor of Paro in 1950 after the Death of Governor of Paro, Tshering Penjor. 
 
His coronation took place on October 27, 1952, right after the death of His Father March 30, 1952. His first milestone was the establishment of the National assembly which was a single legislative chamber of that time. He made prominent contributions to the development of Bhutan like in 1961, the establishment of Economic Planning and constituent Royal Advisory Council. He got the title of Druk Gyalpo after the establishment of Royal Bhutan Army and become the Chief Commander. The movement of Modernization become more prevalent after the establishment of High Court and also by creating a good relationship with India by constructing an all-weather road from Thimpu to India in 1962.
 
Moreover, He appended his force to make Bhutan the member of UN and His dream was accomplished in 1971 and made the Bhutan a part of Diplomatic Circle.

In terms of his personal life, he was married to European Educated lady – Ashi Kesang Choden Wangchuck who was born in 1930, cousin of Chogyal (King) of Sikkim and Daughter of Gongzim Sonam Tobgye and Mayeum choying wangmo. They had Four  Daughters with a son name as Ashi Sonam Choden Wangchuck, Ashi Dechen Wangmo Wangchuck, Ashi Prema Lhadron Wangchuck and His Son who became the 4th King of Bhutan Jigme Singye Wangchuck. Druk Gyalpo’s brother in Law Jigme palden Dorji also helped Him in Modernising the Bhutan.
