His debut movie is The Defenders Naked city. He got famous for his performance as a would-be gigolo in Midnight Cowboy in 1969. hE became a Hollywood star with his various portrayals. He worked for movie Deliverance and then as a paraplegic Vietnam veteran in Coming Home. He appeared in films like 'Anaconda' and 'Most Wanted'. He was nominated for 'Razzie Award’ for ‘Worst Actor’ for these films.
In 1985, the man appreciated his performance as a ruthless bank robber in Runaway Train. In 1997, he performed a good role in The Rainmaker.
