Joseph Ganapathiplackal Abraham is an Indian athlete who holds the national record in the event of 400-meter hurdles. He set this record during the 2007 World Championships in Athletics held in Osaka, Japan. 

 

Abraham took up the sports at an early age and made a good progress in intermediate hurdles. In his career thus far, he has represented India at various international competitions and won various medals. He won bronze and silver medal at the Asian Athletics Championships in 2007 and 2009 respectively. He won a silver medal at the 2007 Asian Gand Prix Circuit. He won gold at the national championships in 2005 and gold at the 2010 Asian Games held in Guangzhou. He became the first ever Indian win an individual Gold medal at the Asian Games in 400metres hurdle event. 

 

Besides hurdles, he also competes in 400, sprint event.
