Marin Cilic was born on 28-09-1988 in Medjugorje, Citluk, Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, Bosnia, and Herzegovina. He is a Croatian Tennis Player.
Marin Cilic Complete Bio & Career
Cilic started playing tennis in the ITF circuit in the spring of 2004. In the beginning, he played on clay courts, where he won the La Vie Junior Cup in the singles and won the Open Dutch Junior Championships in doubles. In that same year, he qualified for the US Open where he lost in the second round of Sam Querrey. In 2005 he won the Roland Garros boys singles by defeating Andy Murray in the semi-final. He ended that year at the second position of the junior, behind Donald Young. Cilic won his first titles in 2007.
In the same following, the year he won the Casablanca Challenger and the Rijeka Challenger. In June he defeated in the first round of Queen's Tim Henman. He was beaten in the quarterfinals by Andy Roddick. In 2008 he became increasingly active in ATP tournaments. He reached the semifinals of the ATP tournament of Madras by successively defeating Viktor Troicki, Nicolas Mahut and Robin Haase. He lost the semi-final of the later winner Michail Joezjny. At the Australian Open, he reached the eighth-finals, after having defeated Fernando Gonzalez, among others. He lost in that eighth final of James Blake. As a result, he rose to the 39th position on the ATP rankings. He also won the fourth round at Wimbledon by defeating, among others, Jarkko Nieminen and Paul-Henri Mathieu. He won his first ATP title in New Haven at the local ATP tournament. He then defeated Viktor Troicki, Jurgen Melzer, Igor Andrejev and Mardy Fish.
At the beginning of the 2010 season, the Croatian reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open, on the way to his best grand slam performance, Cilic defeated Andy Roddick and Juan Martín del Potro. Andy Murray proved too strong in the semi-finals. In July 2013 it was announced that he had been suspended for three months. He was caught in May earlier that year during the ATP tournament in Munich on the use of a banned glucose agent. Cilic won for the first time the final of a grand slam at the US Open. In this, he managed to defeat Japanese Kei Nishikori, also debuting finalist: 6-3, 6-3 and 6-3. During the ATP World Tour Finals, Cilic lost his three group matches. In December 2014 Cilic won the prize for best Croatian Athlete of the Year together with Sandra Perkovic. He won the Chennai Open in the consecutive two years in 2009 and 2010On 23 Feb 2014, he was the winner of the International Tennis Championships held at Delray Beach, EUA.In the same year, he also won the Kremlin Cup at Moscow, Russia.
