Mohammad Asif was a great Pakistani bowler who posessed immense talent but it were his off-field controversies that made more news than his cricket. From failing dope tests to getting arrested for possesion of drugs to spot fixing. His career was short-lived and in a career of 5 years, he could manage to play only 22 Tests, 38 ODIs and 11T20I for Pakistan. He has arguablhy one of the most feared bowler then and made top players like Kevin Pietersen, Hashim Amla, Ricky Ponting, and Sachin Tendulkar his bunny on various occasions.
He made his debut when Pakistan toured Australia in 2005. He had a forgetable outing then but made ammends soon when India toured Pakistan in 2006. He took his first 10-wicket haul in tests when Pakistan toured Sri Lanka and he was their pick of the bowlers. He was also Pakistan's leading wicket taker when Pakistan toured South Africa in 2007. He, however was left out of the Pakistan squad from the 2007 ICC World Cup team as he decalred unfit. In 2008, he was roped in by IPL franchise Delhi and in 8 matches that he played for them, he picked up 8 wickets. He picked up his 100th test wicket during Pakistan tour of England but in the same series he was booked under spot-fixing charges and after proving guilty, he was banned by PCB for 7 years. He did made a comeback in domestic cricket after completion of his ban but was ignored by selectors due to his past controversies.
