He started his career as a writer, working on his first script Filmistan in the year 1948. Later on, he directed numerous blockbusters including Dil Deke Dekho in 1959, Tumsa Nahin Dekha and many others.
He entered in production field in the year 1961 from his film Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai. The reputed director has various awards to his credit such as Filmfare Best Screenplay Award for Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Filmfare Best Movie Award for Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar and Filmfare Special Award. Hussain was an extrovert and had friendly associations with various people, whom he worked with.
He left the world on 13-03-2002 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India when he was 75.
