Poonam is recognised as a much desirable and alluring top model in the fashion industry. She has appeared in many advertisements for top brands like Dove, Paneri Sarees and Killer Jeans.
 
She made her debut with a brief role in the movie Mohra where she was characterized as the wife of Suniel Shetty. She then went on to feature in various South Indian projects earning herself a good name as an actress in South Indian Cinema. She also starred in many music videos but her real love for music and singing advanced when she seen was singing for her movie Aanch in 2003.
 
Although she was seen in some movies but she sort of made a comeback in 2012, in Bollywood with mega stars like Akshay Kumar, Veteran Mithun Chakraborty, Paresh Rawal and Mahesh Manjrekar in the hit film OMG: Oh My God!
 
She vowed to support the cause of eliminating corruption which Anna Hazare took up and took to the national level. She voiced strongly in support of the Lokpal Bill. She also works for the improvement and empowerment of women and is also attached to several NGOs.
