Rajendra Singh Babu was born on 22-10-1952 in Mysore in the state of Karnataka, India. He is an Indian Film Director, Film Producer & Screenwriter who is best known for his work in Kannada cinema as well as Telugu & Bollywood film industry.

Rajendra Singh Babu (S.V. Rajendra Singh) is Kannada film producer and director (Kannada Language). His banner Mahatma Pictures has produced several movies in the Kannada language. Though Babu comes from a family of movie producers, his father wanted him to be a doctor. However, Babu was never interested in medicine. His passion for cameras took him towards movie-making constructively. He was mesmerized with classic movies, and so, he decided to pursue his movie-making career. He quotes, “Cinema should go near the audience.”
He has written scripts for movies of varying niches. He has even directed romances, war movies, suspense, thrillers, and comedy movies in Kannada and Telugu. Most the movies are adaptations of novels and short stories.
His debut movie was titled ‘Nagakanye’ in 1975. His recent movie is ‘Raktaaksha’ released in 2018. In 2020, his movie titled ‘Gandugali Madakari Nayaka’ is planned to be released. He has also produced movies in Hindi and Telugu. The year 1984 witnessed the release of two Hindi movies, ‘Mera Faisla’ and ‘Sharara.’ In 1985, he produced ‘Ek Se Bhale do.’ His recent Hindi release is ‘Love in Kashmir’ in the year 2011.
His book ‘Nenanpina Muthina Hara’ is a memoir of his experiences with a Kannada actor, Vishnuvardhan. This book is all about his ambitions to create meaningful movies in Kannada and other languages. He has even enumerated all his dreams concerning Kannada cinema and how it would contribute to the Kannada film industry.
He has been recognized with three National Film Awards in 1984, 1990 and 1997 respectively for the ‘Best Feature Film in Kannada.’ He has won 9 Karnataka State Film Awards and 3 Filmfare (South) Awards.
