Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Complete Bio & Career

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra completed his school level education from the Air Force Bal Bharati School in New Delhi. Mehra started off his professional career by selling Eureka Forbes vacuum cleaners. He set up a company named Flick Motion Picture Company Private Limited in the year 1986. Through this company, he started making ad-films. He himself directed famous television commercials of brands like Toyota, BPL, Pepsi, American Express and Coke.
 
He then established a production company called Romp (Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Pictures) and through his company, he started making films. He made his filmmaking debut by writing the screenplay and also directing the Amitabh Bachchan starrer film Aks in 2001. The film was acclaimed by the critics though it failed to do well at the box-office. He came back five years later and this time with a mission of telling an Indian story to the world with his much-acclaimed project Rang de Basanti in 2006. Besides, directing and writing, he also produced the film. The film became a landmark film in the history of Indian cinema. The film won as many as four National Awards and was also nominated for the Oscars under the category of Best Foreign Language Film. The film was nominated at the BAFTA Awards under the category of Best Film Not in the English Language.
 
His next project Delhi-6 again was based on Indian religious divide and caste fabric. The film was well acclaimed by almost all the critics and was also well-received at the various International Film Festivals. He then made legendary Milkha Singh’s Biopic in 2013. This movie too showed the backdrop of India gaining freedom and the bloody violence that took just after the independence. This film too scored gold at the box-office. His latest release Mirzya though garnered negative reviews and also failed miserably at the box-office.
