Ruth Pfau (Pakistan's Mother Teresa) was born on 09-09-1929 in Leipzig in the state of Saxony, Germany. She was a German-born Pakistani Nun, Activist, Social Worker, Philanthropist, Humanitarian & Founder of MALC (Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre).

Ruth Pfau Complete Bio & Career

Ruth Pfau’s full name is Dr. Ruth Katherina Martha Pfau. She grew up at the warzone during the Second World War and lost her home as well. She along with her family relocated to West Germany and chose medicine as her career. She enrolled at the University of Mainz and studied medicine there. From Evangelical Protestant, she got converted to Roman Catholicism. In 1957, she got associated with Daughters of the Heart of Mary, a Catholic order. She was supposed to come to India in 1960 but had to content with a Pakistani visa. She stayed in Karachi and traveled whoe of Pakistn and border areaas of Afghanistan and rescued patients. After staying for there for a year, she decided to stay back in Pakistan and serve the people of Pakistan.   
 
In 1961 there was a leprosy breakout in Pakistan and she started medical treatment for the leprosy patients in a hut in Karachi. The government of Pakistan appointed her as the Federal Advisor on Leprosy in the Government of Pakistan. She then served in the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in 1979. Since there were hardly any medical facilities available for leprosy patients in Pakistan, she collected funds from Germany and served the people of Pakistan. She was awarded the Pakistani citizenship in the year 1988. It was because of her efforts that WHO declared Pakistan as one the first Asian countries which have controlled leprosy. 
 
For her contribution to the society, she was felicitated with various awards during her lifetime. She was felicitated with prestigious awards such as Order of Merit (Germany), Ramon Magsaysay Award, and Nishan-i-Quaid-i-Azam among various others.
