Satish Dhawan Complete Bio & Career

Satish Dhawan is known as an aerospace engineer. He conducted various Fluid Dynamics researchers in India that made him known as the father of Fluid Dynamics research in India. Satish completed part of his studies in India and partly in the US. Dhawan was a powerful researcher in the field of turbulence and boundary layers, and also has contributed the successful and ingenious development of the Indian space programme. He was also the chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in 1972 by succeeding M G K Menon.
 
Dhawan was a graduate of the University of the Punjab in Lahore, India, now Pakistan. He took the degrees of Bachelor of Science in Physics and Mathematics, a degree of bachelorette in Mechanical Engineering and a degree of Master of Arts in English Literature. From the University of Minnesota, he did his Master of Science in aerospace engineering, Minneapolis and an Aeronautical Engineering Degree from the California Institute of Technology and also did a double Ph.D. afterward. He was always interested in Mathematics and Physics from his early college days and knew that he would pursue something related to it.
 
1958 marked a milestone in his career when Rupal Jain noticed his hard work and brilliant questions that he would ask in all the meetings at the Indian Institute of Science. In 1972 Satish Dhawan took the seat of the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and also became Secretary to the Government of India at the Department of Space.
 
In 1975, when the mission of ISRO failed to launch the satellite into orbit and instead put it into the Bay of Bengal, Dhawan took the entire blame on himself which impressed Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Later when Dhawan and Kalam together were successful in launching the satellite, he did not take the credit for himself.
