Shad Gaspard was born and raised in New York. It was his father who started training him in boxing from the age of 5. A few years later, he started training in martial arts as well. He trained in Muay Thai, Kick Boxing, Judo, and Jeet Kune Do among other martial arts form. He during his teens started fighting as an amateur. and won various tournaments. During his early days, he used to fight adults who were 7-8 years elder to him and still gave them a run for their money. He was also into athletics during his school days and used to play wrestling, basketball, and track events. He continued playing basketball even at college level and after his education was completed, he started serving as bodyguard of various actors, and rappers. He has served as a bodyguard of Puff Daddy, Mike Tyson, and Britney Spears among others. In the decade of the 2000s, he decided to become a profesional wrestler and participated in reality show Tough Enough 2. He though was disqualified after failing to pass physical test. He was then scouted by WWE scout manager Tom Prichard who brough him to WWE. He fought under the ring name "Da Beast" and formed a tag team partnership with Kenny Bolin's Bolin Services.

Shad Gaspard died on 17-05-2020 at the age of 39. He along with his son went swimming at a Marina del Rey beach in Venice Beach, California when got caught in a strong rip current. His son got saved but his body couldn't be found even after searching 70 sq nautical miles by the coast guard. His body was finally found on 20th May 2020 at Venice beach.
