Simona Halep Complete Bio & Career

Simona Halep started playing tennis at the tender age of 4. At the age of 6, she started exercising daily and at the age of 16, she relocated to Bucharest to build her tennis career. Growing up she idolized tennis legends like Andrei Pavel and Justin Henin.
 
She played in Australian Open Juniors and at junior level won her first title at Trofeo Bonfiglio. She also won the French Open Juniors trophy and played ITF tournaments till 2009. She entered the main draw of Australian Open in the year 2010. In a year or so, she was among the top 50 ranked players. She became the first female tennis player from Romania to win 2 WTA titles on different surfaces. She was awarded the most improved player on the court in the year 2013. She rose to number 2 in rankings in 2014, the same year she played her first grand slam final in French Open which she eventually lost to Maria Sharapova. To date, she has won 15 WTA titles and has twice been the finalist of a grand slam. She is currently ranked number 2 and is looking good to have some slams under her belt. Her cross-court and down the line winners are very effective shots as she tends to win most of her points through these shots.
