W. Arthur Lewis got primary education at Saint Lucia. He was A brilliant student. So, he got promoted two classes ahead. After completing his graduation, he aimed to become an engineer but he got no selection due to discrimination against black color persons in Saint Lucia. This was the time when he wished to become an economist so that he can make reform in society.
 
With his brilliance, he not only cleared the entrance exam of the London School of Economics but also got a scholarship. Whether the London School of Economics was the most precious university of economics  Arthur Lewis was the first black person who got a scholarship and acceptance in the university.
 
His hard work and excellence in studies impressed his teachers and professors in the university. He was admired and praised by all of them. He studied under the supervision of many experienced professors such as Arnold Plant, one of the best economists in London. In 1940 he completed his Ph. D from the London school of economics and got the opportunity to work here as a professor under the leadership of Arnold Plant till 1948.
 
After completion of his mandate at the London School of Economics, he was released in 1948. Afterward, he got an offer from the University of Manchester to join the university as a lecturer. During his term here, he developed many important concepts in the field of economics and became the well-known Economist of independent Europe.
 
Lewis served as Chief Economist to the government in countries such as Ghana, Trinidad, and Tobago, Jamaica, and Barbados. He was appointed as vice-chancellor of the University of West Indies in 1959. He served as a professor at Princeton University and taught generations of students during his service. He was the first president of the Caribbean development bank.
