Swara Bhaskar was born and brought up in Delhi. During her college days, she associated herself with N.K. Sharma’s “Act One” theatre group. After the completion of her graduation, she relocated to Mumbai. The following year, she made her acting debut with critically acclaimed film Madholal Kepp Walking. Her performance was hailed but the movie boomed at the box-office. She then played a supporting role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film titled Guzaarish.

 

She was first noticed after she played a supporting role in blockbuster film Tanu Weds Manu. For her performance, she even won the Best Supporting Actress Nominations. This performance of her paved her way for playing lead roles and she finally played her first lead role in Listen... Amaya in the year 2013. The film, as usual, was praised by critics but failed to make a mark at the box-office. She won her second Filmfare award nominations for her performance in Aanand L Rai’s romantic drama film titled Raanjhanaa. She kept on giving performances which were hailed by critics but failing to make their mark at the box-office. All this changed after she performed in Sooraj Barjatia’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo which was one of the highest grossing Indian films at the box-office. Among all the performances that she has given, her performances in films like Nil Battey Sannata, and Anaarkali of Aarah needs a special mention. Her performances in these films were praised heavily by critics. She was last seen in superhit film Veere Di Wedding in which she played the parallel lead role alongside veteran actors like Kareena Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor. 

 

Besides acting, she has also started her own production company called ‘Kahaaniwaaley’ along with her brother. She is also vocal about social issues and has slammed government on various issues as well.
