Tapen Chatterjee, the veteran actor, was born on 3rd September 1937 in Kolkata. He was a Bengali film actor, who earned immense fame and recognition from the regional film world.

The super talented actor played several leading roles in Satyajit Ray’s films. He is particularly known for his role as Goopy Gyne in “Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne” released in 1968, followed by its sequels “Heerak Rajar Deshe” in 1980 and “Goopy Bagha Phire Elo” in 1991.
He was a qualified engineer and had a job in Rajasthan after which he came to Kolkata and joined Bengali magazine Sandesh. He started his career working in the children’s department of the magazine. He was cast in a cameo in “Mahanagar” by Satyajit followed by his role as Goopy Gyne.
He still lives in Bengali film lovers memories with his famous songs Aaha Ki Aananda Aakshe Batashe and Rabi Ghosh. Just the name of the famous actor brings a number of memories to the minds of the Bengali movie lovers.
Tapen Chatterjee died on 24-05-2010 in Kolkata, state of West Bengal in India at the age of 72. He was suffering from pulmonary ailments.
