Women are the second name of power, one of the most common examples of this saying is Umashree. This lady is not only a great woman but also a single mother, great actress, honest politician and a social worker. She is well known Indian actress and politician.
 
She particularly did comic roles. She started her cinematic career in the year 1984 with a supporting role in the Kannada film Anubhava. However, it typecast her in comedy roles with a degree of innuendo. She worked with many famous actors such as N. S. Rao and later with Mukhyamantri Chandru, Doddanna and Karibasavaiah. Her directors included SV RajendraSingh Babu and YograjBhat. She also won national award for best actress in 2007 for movie Gulabi. She was also nominated for best actress award of Middle East international film festival Abu Dubai for the same movie.
 
She has also worked in few TV serials such as Musanje, Kicchu and Musanje Katha Prasanga. She has experience in the village, amateur, mythological and professional drama. She has two children. She has a daughter who is a dentist and her name is Gayathri, and a son name is Vijayakumar is an advocate. She raised them as a young single mother. Umashree also actively participates in positive social activities.
 
Umashree has also done social work.  Mainly for supporting and improving rural and disadvantaged women. She is also a member of Rangasampada amateur theatre group of Bangalore (Karnataka). In 2013, she became a Member of the Legislative Assembly in Karnataka in the government of Siddaramaiah. She is the Minister for Women and Child Development, Kannada language and culture.
