Upendra Complete Bio & Career

Upendra was born in a middle class Brahmin family from Kannada. He always wanted to work in film industry and hence he joined veteran director Kashinath as his assistant. After assisting him for a while, he finally made his directorial debut through the Kannada film Tharle Nan Maga in the year 1992. This movie broke various records at the box-office and also achieved a cult following. This film also introduced the legendary comedian Jaggesh.
 
His next film Om too was a runaway hit and with two back to back hits, he became one of the most sought after directors of Kannada film industry then. Various film makers started approaching. In 1998, he again broke various box-office records with his venture A. In addition to directing, he also made his acting debut through this film. Not just he won the Best director award but also ended up winning the Best Actor Award in his very first film. He then starred alongside Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon in self titled film Upendra which was a bigger hit than his previous film A. In his next, he again paired up with yet another Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre in the remake of Bollywood film Darr titled Preethse in the year 2000. This film again was a runaway hit and with three consecutive blockbuster hits, Upendra became one of the biggest stars of Kannada film industry.  In addition to Kannada, he also started appearing in Telugu and Tamil films as well.
 
After hitting the highest of highs, he had a rough patch from 2006 to 2009 where most of his films such as Masti, Lava Kusha, Uppi Dada M.B.B.S., and Dubai Babu among various others went unnoticed. The only hits that he delivered during this period were Budhivanta and Aishwarya. The latter was the debut film of Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone. He returned to direction after almost a decade in 2010 and in his very first comeback film Super, he delivered. He also acted in this film and starred alongside Tulip Joshi and veteran Tamil film actress Nayantara. Since then, he has delivered more often than not and is arguably among one of the biggest stars of Kannada film industry. His 2015 Telugu film titled S/O Satyamurthy was declared 7th highest grossing Telugu film of all time. He was recently seen in the Kannda film Nagarjuna.
