Uttam Kumar Complete Bio & Career

Uttam Kumar debutant from the Nitin Bose directed film "Drishtidan" released in 1948. In that period he acted in the 4-5 film the entire movies got flopped. He changed his name continually to give a new screen name from Arun Kumar, Uttam Chatterjee, Arun Chatterjee and then in last he finalized his name "Uttam Kumar."Later he got famous with that name and gained popularity in the Indian cinema. He fellow called him a "Flop Hero" often he came to the studio and made him laughed. He did not like the sarcastic comments by the studio crew and cast. On the consequence, he left the cinema and joined the (Calcutta Ports). Despite Uttam's wife encouraged him to pursue his dreams and on the suggestion of his wife, he again joined the cinema. In the meanwhile, he got the three years contract from "M.P Studios."

Under the banner of "M.P studios," he produced “Basu Paribar" after that he started earning fame. But in 1954 released film "Agni Pariksha" that started the successful journey of the romantic pair (Uttam Kumar and  Suchitra Sen).In 1953 this pair worked together in their first film "Sharey Chuattor" who established the Uttam Kumar in the film industry and ran over 65 weeks in theaters.

During the 60’s to 70’s he has had many successful pairs with the leading heroines of the Indian film industry like "Supriya Choudhury, Madhabi Mukherjee, Tanuja, Kaberi Bose Anjana Bhaumick, Sharmila Tagore and Aparna Sen.He was always keen to experiment with his characters and role in the films. He opted for the challenging role those he could do full justice with the roles like Mayamriga -1960, Pratyabartan-1960, Marutirtha Hinglaj-1959, Thana Theke Aschi-1965, and Aparichita-1969. Uttam Kumar was always considered to be a perfectionist to set as the substance of acting to sharpen up his skills as an actor instead of becoming the star achiever at the box office.

Uttam Kumar, a workaholic, suffered a stroke while filming for one of his films and died on 24th July 1980 in Tollygunge, Kolkata in the state of West Bengal, India at the age of 53.
