Vikram Sugumaran belongs to a Hindu family and was born in the Paramakudi city of Ramanathapuram district in Tamil Nadu. He also completed his studies at Paramakudi. He wanted to become an actor and moved to Chennai to fulfill his dream.
He met noted filmmaker Balu Mahendra and joined his team as an assistant director. He made more than 50 short films with Balu Mahendra. In 2003, he made his Tamil film debut as an assistant director, and the film was Julie Ganapathy. He made his directorial debut with the Tamil film Madha Yaanai Koottam in 2013. Next, he directed the Tamil film Therum Porum in 2020, and Raavana Kottam in 2023. The story and dialogues of the Tamil film Raavana Kottam are also written by Vikram Sugumaran.
Besides film direction, he also acted in a few movies including Polladhavan, Kodiveeran, and others.
