Samir Mitragotri Complete Bio & Career

Samir Mitragotri is a renowned bioengineer and a professor at Mellichamp Chair in the Department of Chemical Engineering at UCSB.He has been a student of Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Bombay. Then, he did Masters in Science in Chemical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
 

He has focused his research towards developing novel methods on transdermal, oral and targeted drug delivery systems with the aim to provide various patient-friendly and easy-to-use means of disease management. He is known to be an author of about and over 210 publications. Moreover, he is known to be an inventor on over 115 patent applications. He has bagged a huge list of awards such as SFB’s Clemson Award, AIChE’s Colburn Award, Outstanding Undergraduate Thesis Award, G.P Kane medal and award in Chemical Engineering, focusesonAcrivos Professional Progress Award, etc. He has been Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researcher in 2015 and 2016. 

 
His achievements are never-ending. Apart from being the founding director of UCSB's Center for Bioengineering, he is a co-founder of various companies, which are manufacturing products based on his inventions. Mitragotriis the member of editorial boards of a huge number of journals and presently holds the post of Editor-in-Chief of Bioengineering and Translational Medicine. 
 
Apart from his above-mentioned research, on comprehending the transport processes of biomolecules across several biological barriers. His research has helped in easy diagnosis and treatment of various ailments including infections, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, skin conditions and diabetes. He happened to develop unique bio-inspired nanoparticles with engineered shapes to track immunological hurdles in the body. 
 
Recently, the renowned bioengineer has been elected to be a joint faculty member of the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) and Harvard’s Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering.
