Sashadhar was Kishore Kumar and Ashok Kumar’s brother-in-law. He married to their only sister, Sati Rani. He was responsible for getting Ashok Kumar into films. His children are Joy Mukherjee, Rono Mukherjee, Deb Mukherjee, Shibani Mukherjee, Shomu Mukherjee and Subir Mukherjee.

Sashadhar Mukherjee was a producer for Bombay Talkies along with Himanshu Rai, he had a successful run until his death. It got shattered later over the issues of its control and was soon closed. He made his debut in 1939 with a film titled ‘Kangan’. After producing three films with last one ‘Jhoola’ in 1941 he took an indefinite break and returned after 14 years in 1955 with a film titled “Munimji” which did fairly well. His biggest hit came in ‘Dil Deke Dekho’ starring Shammi Kapoor and Asha Parekh in lead roles.

He started an acting school which was named Filmalaya Acting School and the by-products of his School were many ace actors including Asha Parekh and Sadhna among many various others.
