Abbas Ali Baig Complete Bio & Career

Abbas Ali Baig was a classical stroke-player. He remains as one of the most catastrophic players of Indian cricket. He was a man who was full of skill and talent but could manage to represent India only in ten Test matches. His played first-class cricket for over two decades. Baig's brush with perpetuity will remain in the record books for his unforgettable feat of scoring a century in his debut Test in 1959. He came in the side because Vijay Manjrekar injured himself. In his debut inning, Baig made a splendid 112 at the Old Trafford. He didn’t just become the first ever Indian to score a hundred on his debut outside India, but at the age of 20 years and 131 days, he was then the youngest Indian player to score a Test century. His best performance came against the mighty Australian side in 1959-60 season. He scored 50 and 58 respectively in both the innings of the third Test which was held at Bombay. He was instrumental in India drawing that match.
 
The following year when Pakistan toured India, he failed in all four innings and was eventually dropped from the side. He kept on piling runs in the Duleep Trophy and Ranji Trophy tournaments. It took him almost six years to make it back in the national team when he was selected yo play two Tests against the West Indies team.  This was the last time, he represented India. Though, he was selected on the 1971 tour to England but only to warm the bench as he was never picked in the playing XI.
