Ashley Graham had to face a lot of sexual abuse due to her size right from the childhood. Due to abuses that she faced, she was diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and also dyslexia. When she was just 12 years old, she was spotted by a talent scout and asked her mother to send Ashley’s photos to modeling agency. This is how her modeling career started. While studying in high school, she started appearing on billboards and various magazines. After completion of her school, she relocated to New York and started a full-time career in modeling.
 
During the initial phase of her career, she was rejected by various brands due to her body shape. Her career took a u-turn after she was signed by Vogue in the year 2007. After that, she never looked back and became one of the most sought after plus model in the US. Finally, on February 9, 2016, Graham was starred on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. In 2016, Graham was also on the cover page of the Cosmopolitan. Since the 23rd season of the US television program, America's Next Top Model is Graham Jurorin in the show. She is a body mass index of 25.1; she is mostly booked as a so-called plus-size model and at the beginning of 2016 was the first "plus-size" model in the Swimsuit (swimwear) edition of the Sports Illustrated was pictured. It is the most famous model of the fashion brand Lane Bryant. Graham stands in public to her body and defies her appearance to the lean in the modelling industry spread image.

In 2017, she released a book, A New Model: What Confidence, Beauty, and Power Really Look Like (in which she shared her experiences as a model). She additionally shared, in this book, her outlooks for the progression of body image over the years.
