She was born in Russia but relocated to the US and started training at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy at the tender age of nine. Powerful and Long-limbed, she showed immense promise from the junior level and it was certaain that she will be a star one day. She was runners up at the Wimbledon and French Open Junior tournaments in 2002. At the age of 14, she turned pro and started competing with the best in the business at the age of 15.
 
She made the headlines after a 15 year old Sharapova reached the 4th round of the Wimbledon in her very first attempt. In 2004, she claimed the Wimbledon title at the age of 17 and became the 1st Russian to win a Wimbledon title in the history of tennis. The same year, she also won World Tur Finals and announced her arrival on the court with a bang. A couple of years later, she won the US Open as well. She was doing well at the ATP tournaments but failed to win the grand slams post that US opn win. She did managed to win the Austraia Open in 2008 but soon started getting injected with injuries. She was ruled out for months during 2009 and 2010. Sharapova though made a stunning comeback and defeated Sara Errani in the French Open 2012 finals and completed her career grand slam. She thereby became the 10th women in the history of the sports to do so. Through this win, she also became the number 1 ranked player in the world.
 
She also won a Silver medal at the 2012 Olympics. She won the French Open again in 2014 and that was the lalst Grand Slam that she won in her career. In 2016, she failed a drug test and was handed ban of 2 years. She though challenged the ban and the ban got reduced to 15 months. She made a comeback  in 2017 but hasn't been that effective since her return on the court.
 
Off the court though, she has been one of the biggest earner through endorsement deals. She has served as the brannd ambassador of various international brands and has been the est-paid female athlete for several years. harapova's other business ventures include the 2012 launch of the Sugarpova candy line with Jeff Rubin, the founder of IT'SUGAR. A larg chunk of money that is earned through her ventre goes directy to Maria Sharapova foundation. She has been associated with various charitable organisations and is a style icon as well. She finally retired from Tennis in February 2019.
