Atharva Ankolekar was born and raised in Mumbai. His late father Vinod Ankolekar too was a Kanga league cricketer and an employee at the electricity department of BEST. His father wanted him to be a cricketer and hence he started playing cricket at a very early age at the maidans of Mumbai. He lost his father when he was just 10 years old but continued playing cricket. His mother took up his father's job and made sure that his son fulfill his father;s dream.
After performing consistently at the age group cricket, he was included in Mumbai's U-19 team and from there he went on to play for India U-19. He toured to Sri Lanka for the U-19 Asia Cup and then was selected in the ICC U-19 2020 World Cup team as well. He was instrumental with both bat and ball and hence was India's biggest match winner in their triumph at the world cup.
