Ayesha's was born to a Bengali father and British descent. Her parents worked in India but soon after her birth, they relocated to Australia. She completed her education in Australia. She was also an amateur boxer. She was married for 12 years prior to marrying Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan. Since she was also an athlete, she makes sure that she and her husband Shikhar stays fit.
 
She and Shikhar met on Facebook and it was ace cricketer Harbhajan Singh who played the matchmaker in their relationship. Shikhar Dhawan's family initially refused the relationship but later accepted her as their daughter-in-law. She is often spotted on the cricket field cheering her husband and team India.
