Bappi Lahiri Complete Bio & Career

Born as Alokesh Lahiri, Bappi Lahiri was a popular music director, singer, and record producer from India. He had said to have popularized the use of synthesized disco, dance music in Indian cinema music.
 
He came from a family with a musical background and his parents trained him initially in music. He began playing the tabla when he was 3 years old. He moved to Mumbai in order to pursue a career in music. His first venture as a music composer was the Bengali movie ‘Dadu’. His first Bollywood film as a composer was Nanha Shikari. However, the film ‘Zakhmee’ proved to be a breakthrough in his career. Further, Chalte Chalte also earned him recognition as a music director. Later in the 80s, he added the popular disco element to the film music in Bollywood movies like Sahhas, Pyara Dushman, Armaan, Wardat, and others. His collaboration with Mithun Chakraborthy’s music was greatly popular across the country. Especially the music for Disco Dancer went viral during the time. His name was recorded in the Guinness Book of World records for recording over 180 songs in the year 1986. He had rendered over 5000 compositions for about 500 films in his career. He had also composed music for a couple of Bangladeshi films.
 
He was well-versed with instruments like piano, guitar, tabla, bongos, saxophone, and dholak. He had also contested for the Lok Sabha General elections in 2014 from Srirampur constituency and faced defeat.
