Belinda Bencic was born in Flawlil, Switzerland. Her grandparents left Czechoslovakia due to the invasion by the Soviet Union and emigrated to Switzerland in 1968. Belinda’s father was a professional Hockey player who played in the Swiss National Leagues. He then became an insurance broker.
Her mother was also involved in sports as she was a superb hand-ball player. Belinda started playing Tennis at the age of two and got the training from her father. She was just 4 when entered her first national level tournament. However, she was defeated by six years old opponent without winning a single set.
This motivated her to challenge the older opponents. Also, her father took coaching advice from his old friend who was the mother as well as the coach of former no. 1 Tennis player, Martina Hingis. Her play inspired Belinda’s father to involve his daughter in Tennis. Molitor opened a Tennis Academy in Wollerau. It was the same place where Belinda got shifted with his family. As a result, she got a chance to train under her supervision. Belinda also trained with Hingis, occasionally. Bencic was the top-ranked junior Tennis player in all around the world. She was the first girl to win French Open Junior and Wimbledon Junior in the same year. She was also the first Swiss girl after Martina Hingis to win the junior Grand Slams. At the age of 17, she was the youngest quarterfinalist of the US Open since Martina Hingis.
Belinda was also awarded the name of WTA newcomer of the year. In 2015, Belinda won her first WTA title and got a ranking of 12 in the world. However, she got an injury, the next year and was outside of the top 300. Still, Belinda made a superb comeback and was back into top 20. She made her debut by playing in Switzerland Fed Cup team in 2012 at just the age of 14. She along with her team were then qualified for the World Group Playoffs. However, she was not able to attend those playoffs due to the injuries. Still, their team beat Poland and made comeback to the top-tier World Group.
Belinda entered the Hopman Cup tournament along with Roger Federer. In this tournament, they won consecutively for two years. These wins were against the same opponents in both the years, that is, Angelique Kerber and Alexander Zverev. She had a great outing in 2019 though she hasn’t won any slams but has managed to beat almost all the top ranked players.
