Carly Rae Jepsen studied at Heritage Park Secondary School where she developed an interest in musical theater. She wanted to pursue a career in music instruction and applied to several music-related programs. After being persuaded by one of her high school teachers, she was selected for a course at the Canadian College of Performing Arts. After the course, she moved to Vancouver west side where she worked for various minimum wage jobs. Further, she auditioned for Canadian Idol and finished at the third position. She was then signed into 604 Records. Jepsen released her debut single ‘Sunshine On MY Shoulders’ in June 2008. Later in September 2008, she released her debut album titled, ‘Tug of War’ under MapleMusic. ‘Bucket’ and ‘Tug of War’ from the album went on to peak on the list of Top 40 under Canadian Hot 100, and subsequently earned Gold certifications. However, she had to continue other jobs as she music did not fetch her an income. Her biggest breakthrough came with the release of her popular single, ‘Call Me Maybe’. It went viral with the support of Justin Beiber, Ashley Tisdale, and Selena Gomez. She was signed into Schoolboy Records. She became the fourth Canadian Artist to top the Canadian Hot 100 chart. It went on to be the best-selling single of 2012 across the world. It topped several international charts and was named the ‘Song of the Summer’ by Billboard. Her collaboration with Owl City, ‘Good Time’ was also well-received. Her second studio album ‘Kiss’ was released in September 2012, which earned Gold Certification. Jepsen’s third album ‘Emotion’ was released in June 2015.
She was cast in the role of Cinderella in the Broadway production of ‘Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella’.
She also became the ambassador for Wet Seal and Candie’s. She became the first Canadian to receive the ‘Rising Star Award’ at the Billboard Music Awards. Her album ‘Kiss’ was awarded the ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Pop Album of the Year’ at the Juno Awards in 2013. ‘Call Me Maybe’ was nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance and Song of the Year at the Grammy Awards
