Denis La Fontaine Complete Bio & Career
Denis La Fontaine did his primary education from "St Anthony's High School"(Lahore), and he did his graduation from "St George's College"(Musoorie). On Oct 1947, he registered his name into "Indian Air Force."He commenced his training first from "Tigermoth aircraft," and later he moved on to “Spitfires and Harvard's.” On Apr 1950, he was selected into the Ambala "Flying Branch."
He first posted on to the (No-7) of Battle Axes Squadron flying the Tempests aircraft".In 1951 at the time No-7 changed to the De Havilland Vampires. Then he was the first pilot from the Indian Air Force who underwent training for jet planes flying, and he became the first jet fighters, which were operated by any Asian country. In the year 1956, he came back for experiences the operational flying and at the time, his posting was to No-2 "Squadron flying the (Toofanis)."
In the latter part of his training, he promoted to senior flight pilot under N0-29 (Scorpions). In 1960, he started commanding his unit, and by seeing his commanding skills, he again promoted to "squadron leader," and he was committed to building the new squadron, (No-47) Black Archers. He won the "Mukherjee Trophy" in the first year of his raising by flying the (Toofani), and with that, he became the first (Fighter -Combat Squadron). He was so emerging, dedicating and was had a robust personality who had subsequent promotion over time in few time like from "squadron commanders to fighter squadrons and to become wing commander."This rugged pilot appointed to take the No-14 (Fighting Bulls Squadron) command (Kalaikunda). He began an arid fighter stopping progress over the Jessore city (East Pakistan )and a failing interference to (Barrackpore).
At the crash of the 1971 Indo Pak War, he appointed into the Maritime Air Operations Cell (Bombay) as a senior staff officer to handle the civilian airline operational activities. On July 1985, he became the "Chief of Air Staff." On the post of CAS, he commanded the IAF drafting the defense fighters such as the MiG-29 and Mirage 2000. Because both fighters plans were used to counter the threat of (Pakistani F-16).In 1988 He retired from the post of Air Chief Marshal.
