Before entering into a modeling career, Tandon was a state level hockey player. In his modeling career, Kushal made his way to finals and became the first runner-up in Grasim Mr. India contest. In 2010, he underwent the acting course in New York Film Academy (NYFA), Los Angeles, United States and returned to India. After his training period, this good-looking actor was offered an opportunity to perform in the TV show – Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai. Kushal gained extreme popularity for his role as Virat Singh Vadhera, in the TV series. In order to impart the natural essence of his character of a cancer patient, he had shaved his hair completely in this TV series. 
 
Due to his handsome look, he was given the position number 6 in the Eastern Eye UK Magazine for the list of 50 Sexiest Asian Men in the year 2012. The handsome actor, Tandon participated in the TV show Nach Baliye season 5 with his partner Elena Boeva. Consequently, in the year 2013, he got an opportunity to participate in the popular reality show Bigg Boss season 7. Also, Kushal is participated in the reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi - 5.  
 
Additionally, he has also performed in the music video – Zaroori Tha co-starred with his ex-girlfriend Gauhar Khan. Currently, he is featuring in romantic thriller TV show Beyhadh along with Aneri Vajani and Jennifer Winget which is aired on Sony Entertainment Channel.
