Laxmi Agarwal Complete Bio & Career

Laxmi Agarwal is a renowned Indian campaigner with Stop Acid Attack. In addition to that, she is also a famous TV host. She was in her teens when she got attacked by a 32-year-old man called ‘Gudda’ along with his friend Naeem Khan. She was just 15 then and after multiple surgeries, she managed to survive. Post that incident, she decided to speak up and started campaigning and also raised her voice for the acid attack victims. She used to work as a coordinator during the initial period. She intensively worked and gathered over 27,000 signatures to file a petition to curb the sale of acid. She also took the matter to Indian Supreme Court for justice. Her efforts paid off after the Supreme Court gave verdict in favour of the regulation of acid sales by both central and state governments.
 
Her inspiring story was a subject in acid attack victim series organised by HT (Hindustan Times). She is currently working as a director of an NGO named ‘Chhanv Foundation’ which works to help acid attacks survivors in India. She herself has become the voice of various acid attack victims. She also hosted the famous TV show called ‘Udaan’ which aired on New Express in the year 2014. On various platforms, she has been motivating the acid attack victims and giving speeches to help acid attack survivors to start their life again. For her noble work, she has been felicitated with many awards including the ‘2014 International Women of Courage award’. She received it from the hands of then US First Lady Michelle Obama. She was also titled as ‘NDTV Indian of the Year’. A film based on her life story titled Chhapaak is scheduled to release in January 2020. Veteran actress Deepika Padukone has portrayed her role in that film.
