Maqbool Salmaan was born to an actor father and hence it was natural for him to become an actor. He After obtaining graduate degree from Oxford College, Bangalore in Hotel Management, he started taking acting seriously. He didn't wanted to use his uncle (Mammootty) name to get the films. Hence he started auditioning wanted to grab role on his own merit. He was selected by Ranjan Pramod for his upcoming project in 2011. However the film failed to kick off and he finally made his acting debut through Malayalam film Asuravithu in the year 2012. He played his first lead role in the film titled Matinee in the year 2012. The movie was declared hit at the box-office and Maqbool started getting many offers.
Since then, he has been a constant figure in Mollywood. He played the lead villain role in the 2015 released film 1000 – Oru Note Paranja Katha. This film was a huge hit at the box-office and he was looked upon for villain roles since then. Though he played lead actor's role in some of his next few films such as Appuram Bengal Ippuram Thiruvithamkoor, and Masterpiece among others, he got maximum appreciation for his negative role in Shaji Padoor's film Abrahaminte Santhathikal. In 2019, he made his Tamil film debut through Un Kadhal Irundhal. He was last seen in Malayalam film Maffia Don which released in the year 2019.
