Nandita Das was born on 07-11-1969 in Mumbai in the state of Maharashtra, India. She is an Indian Film Actress, Film Director, Writer, Author & Screenwriter who well known for her work in Bollywood, Hollywood, Lollywood, Odia, Kannada, Rajasthani, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam & Gujarati cinema.

Nandita Das got her early education-in Sardar Patel Vidyalaya. Later, she obtained a bachelor's degree from Miranda House of Delhi.She had started acting during school time. After graduation in the field of  Geography, she worked as a teacher at Rishi Valley School for just 6 months. In 1987, she made her acting debut from the film ace Bollywood director Prakash Jha's film Parineeta. She came into limelight when she played her first significant role in the Deepa Mehta's directed film, 'Fire' and '1947 Earth' in 1998.
 
For that film, she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. And some of the challenging role she portrayed in the films such as Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa, Rockford,  Hari-Bhari, Aks and Daughters of the Century. In these films, her characters show the social reality and advanced socialism. In 2002, she worked in the Hindi film Bawandar, and her acting was highly praised as she was awarded by the Best Actress at Santa Monica Film Festival. In the same following year, she acted in the films Aamaar Bhuvan, and Pitha and  Lal Salaam films. Moreover, she won the Zee Cine Award for Best Actor – Female for her work in the film Aamaar Bhuvan. In 2003, in the movie Supari, Nandita Das won the heart of her audience by playing a negative role. 
 
In the subsequent time, she played special roles in the social and reality-based films such as Kagaar: Life on the Edge, Fleeting Beauty(English), Maati Maay(Marathi- won the  Madrid International Film Festival (2007), Best Actress) and Kamli(Telugu-won the Nandi Award for Best Actress). Her one of the most challenging film was Jag Mundhra directed film Provoked (English) as Radha Dalal. She is very particular in choosing a role in the film, but Nandita Das has played mostly broad roles in the films. Some of Nandita Das's roles show serious social issues such as striving for human rights and the difficulties encountered by modern women. Apart from acting she also has directed some films such as Firaaq, which was released in English, Hindi, and Urdu based on common-public issues.
