Rohan Murty was born to a billionaire father. Since childhood, he had a deep passion for programming. After completion of his high school, he relocated to the US and obtained his graduate degree in Computer Science from the Cornell University. He then enrolled at the Harvard University and did PhD in engineering.  
 
He joined Infosys in 2013 as an executive assistant. He too left Infosys after his father resigned from Infosys. He is currently working for Catamaran Ventures. This capital fund is headed by his father N.R. Narayan Murty. He also founded the Murty Classic Library of India.

The Indian astronomer Shrinivas Kulkarni is his maternal uncle.
