Rohinton Mistry was born on 03-07-1952 in Mumbai in the state of Maharashtra, India. He is an Indian-born Canadian Novelist & Writer.

Rohinton Mistry Complete Bio & Career

Rohinton Mistry was raised in Mumbai. He obtained his graduate degree from the famous St Xavier’s College in Mumbai.  For further studies, he relocated to Toronto to Canada and obtained his degree in Philosophy and English from Toronto University. While studying, he also was employed in a bank for a brief period. He published two books titled Canadian Fiction Magazine and Hart House review. He rose to prominence after publishing Tales from Firozsha Baag which contained 11 short stories. The same book became quite popular and was subsequently published in the US with the title “Swimming Lessons and Other Stories from Firozsha Baag”.
 
After the success of his first book, he published his second book four years later in 1991 which was titled as Such a Long Journey. The book won him several prestigious awards such as the Canadian First Novel Award and the Governor General Award among others. His book was also nominated for Booker Prize and the prestigious Trillium Award. The book was translated into various other languages as well. He launched his third book titled “A Fine Balance” in the year 1995.  Like his previous book, this book too won him several prestigious awards. Among all his books the one that stands out is Family Matters which was published in 2002.
 
In 2012 for his outstanding work, he was felicitated with the Neustadt International Prize for Literature.
