Shubman Gill was born in a Punjabi Sikh Jat family in Fazilka. His father noticed his interest in cricket when he was just 3 years old, and decided to trained him in cricket. His family mooved to Mohali near the I.S. Bindra Punjab Cricket Association Stadium. He did his schooling at Manav Mangal Smart School in Mohali, where he completed his 10th STD. Along with schooling, he started his cricket traning at the I.S. Bindra Stadium. Where he was notied by former cricketer Karsan Devjibhai Ghavri and recomeded him to join U19 cricket camps. Then became the player of Punjab Under-16 at the age of 14, and scored a double-century in the Vijay Merchant Trophy.
He first came to limelight after he scored a brilliant 351 in Punjab’s Inter District U-16 tournament. In 2016, he was awarded the best junior player award by BCCI and he got the opportunity to share the stage with his cricketing hero Virat Kohli.
He made his List-A debut on 25-02-2017 for Punjab against Vidharbha at Delhi. He scored 121 runs off 129 balls in his List A debut series agaist Assam. He made his First-class debut on 17-11-2017 for Punjab agaist Bengal at Amritsar. He scored a half-century in debut match and followed it with a brilliant hundred. Shubman created a lot of headlines after he was roped in by IPL franchise KKR for a whopping 1.8 crores in IPL Player auction 2018. He is an Indian U-19 top order batsman and is best known for his hitting prowess. His hard-hitting has often taken the game away from the opposition and helped India win ICC U-19 World Cup in the year 2018.
He was awarded Man of the series in Youth ODI Series against England. He also carried his good form when India U-19 team toured England and was the series top scorer with 278 runs in just 4 innings. He also was India’s top run scorer in the ICC U-19 World Cup 2018 and for his heroics, he was awarded player of the tournament award. He was roped in IPL franchise KKR for a whopping 1.8 crores INR at the 2018 IPL player auction. He made his T20 debut on 14-04-2018 for KKR against SRK at Eden Gardens. Since then, he has played for them and has won them some matches as well. After some impressive performances at the domestic level, he was included in the ODI squad that toured New Zealand in 2019. He got 2 opportunities but failed on both occasions.
Finally, he made his ODI debut on 31-01-2019 against New Zealand at Hamilton. Nexy year, he made his Test debut on 26-12-2020 agaist Australia at Melbourne. He made his T20I debut on 03-01-2023 against Sri Lanka at Wankhede.
