Srijit Mukherji Complete Bio & Career

Srijit Mukherjee attended Dolna Day School and South Point High School in Kolkata. He then attended the famous Presidency College in Kolkata and obtained his graduate degree in economics from there. He then enrolled at the Jawaharlal University and M Phil and MA in environmental economics. Simultaneously, he was working in Urban Transportation and Pollution sector with The Energy and Resources Institute in Delhi. He dropped out of Ph.D. and got associated with IRI Symphony in Bangalore as a business analyst and an econometrician. He worked for a while in Bangalore and then in Milan. Since he didn’t find his job interesting, he quit his job and decided to build a career in theatre and films.
 
While working too, he was actively involved with theatre circuit in Bangalore and Delhi. He acted in plays like The Orchard of Banchharam, The Other Side of History and Madness among others. He himself directed and wrote an Indian adaptation of the famous Crime Drama film Twelve Angry Men in the year 2006.After a range of theater ventures. He also wrote lyrics for Usha Uthup’s albums and films like Le Chakka, Josh and Cross Connection.
 
He then finally started his career as an independent director with the Bengali film Autograph in the year 2010. The film was both critical as well as commercial hit. The film was showcased at Abu Dhabi International Film Festival in 2010 and won as many as 41 awards. The film was also selected at various prestigious international film festivals like London Indian Film Festival and Glasgow International Film Festival among others. He rose to stardom with his adventure thriller Bengali film Mishawr Rohoshyo in the year 2013. The film broke many box=office records and was declared a mega-hit. His film Jaatishwar is the most critically acclaimed movie of his career thus far. After directing a series of acclaimed Bengali films, he finally made his Bollywood directorial debut with the film called Begum Jaan in early 2017. This film though failed to make any impact at the box-office.
