Srinivasaraghavan Venkataraghavan was born on 21-04-1945 in Chennai in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. He is an Indian Cricket Player & Cricket Umpire.

Srinivasaraghavan Venkataraghavan Complete Bio & Career

Srinivasaraghavan Venkataraghavan was an off-spinner who was both penetrative and accurate. He was among one of the famous spin quartet that India had during 1960s to 1980s comprising of legends like Prassana, Chandrasekhar and Bedi. He was a born fighter. To earn his spot, he had to compete with the legendary spinner EAS Prasanna. He kept working hard and in addition to his spin bowling, he was also a handy tail ender batsman. He was also a brilliant close in fielder and an intelligent captain. His international career lasted 18 years from 1965 to 1983.
 
He was still a teenager when he got a Test call up. He made his selection count by claiming as many as 21 wickets in the Test series against New Zealand. Because Prasanna was already in the side as an off-spinner, he warmed the bench for most part of his career. He gave one of the finest performances by an Indian spinner on foreign soil after a spell of 5 for 95 in India's famous victory over the vintage West Indies in the 1970-71 tour at Port of Spain, Trinidad. He was also the vice-captain on that tour to West Indies. He was named the captain of the Indian team that participated in 1975 and 1979 Cricket World Cup. In 1980, he was dropped and made a comeback in 1983 and when Pakistan toured India in 1983, he played his last test match. He kept playing first-class cricket and finally called it a day in 1985 only after claiming 1390 first class wickets to his name.
 
Post retirement, Venkat served as an able administrator and was also the manager of the Indian side. Soon thereafter, he became an Umpire and in the course of his umpiring career became one of the reputed officials of the game. He served as an Umpire in 52 ODIs and 73 ODIS before finally retiring from his duties in 2004.
